It's not as bad as the 2 leads of Queen Charolette (idk if you watched QC but the leads had great chemistry to the point where fans were getting really weird about them and the male lead has a gf. It got the point where the leads were standing like 5 ft apart during promo) but Z and Timmy were definitely making a point to not be too chummy with each other this go round.

Though, I never thought they were besties and were just playing it up during the first press tour. This go round, they didn't bother selling that story especially since Paul/Chani has been sufficiently established. I don't even know if they really ship Z and Tim or if they just want Z to be with someone "trendy" to fulfill whatever image they have of Z/her career.

I’ve just read a fanfic that had a premise so annoying that I need to rant about it! Feel free to skip this post.

It’s a story that I read for the SJ fic club over on Discord - the Plan C series by MissParker. They are a very good writer but their stories tend to have an edge to them that I don’t enjoy (hard to describe - a bit too much angst and bitterness). So I was already aware that I might not enjoy it.

The first story is set late season 7 (after Janet has died; Sam is in a relationship with Pete) and has Sam and Cassie spending Christmas Day with Jack, much agonising over feelings from Sam and Jack, one kiss, and ends with them deciding to bend the rules a little after Sam has broken up with Pete. Sounds like a plot that I would enjoy, right?

But the thing in the story that has really, really annoyed me is the attitude that things have been ‘awkward’ between SG1 and it’s all Sam’s fault for dating Pete 🤬

In particular, there’s this line from Cassie (though at 18, she can be forgiven for being immature about it):

And this exchange with Daniel at the end of the story, after Sam has broken up with Pete:

FFS! Sam is entitled to go out, to date, to have a relationship outside of SG1 and the SGC. This comment is made even worse by the fact that Daniel knows why she and Jack can’t be together 🙄 And there’s nothing in this conversation with Daniel (or in the wider story) about how Jack’s behaviour has affected Sam and might have influenced her decision to try to meet someone else - it’s all on Sam. It’s giving real ‘Yoko broke up the band’ vibes, and is pretty sexist - it’s the woman’s fault, of course, and I hated that Sam didn’t defend herself but just agreed it was her fault.

I have found that among some authors there is a real ‘SG1 as found family’ vibe which often tips into ‘SG1 as co-dependent family’ and ends up in this kind of problematic attitude. It’s also quite an immature attitude - very high school/ university/ life in your 20s when your friend group is the important thing. Real life isn’t really like that.

I do think this is a fanon rather than canon attitude - do we actually see that SG1 spend a lot of time together outside work? I honestly can’t remember.

The thing is, the author is what I would class as a ‘big name author’ in SG fandom, and possibly friends with the people who set up the SJ Fic Club, so I suspect I might be the only one in the discussion with this view of the story.

FFS, they have published a picture of it, if they didn't want this narrative to start, it was something like Hetrrries narratives, without pictures and videos, just a story of flirting but Louis with a girl on a sofa, the girl covered her face, everything about it is suspicious

So, as far as I’ve seen, the photo and story of hanging out with Louis and Oli came from this one local person (and his friends). The whole thing trip to Mexico has been completely bizarre, IMO.

When you say “they” are making Louis available, who is “they”?

The whole trip and Louis being out drinking night after night in super touristy places and being super visible is very suspect to me. I don’t know what the point was, but it definitely was for him to be seen.

Was hanging out with these locals part of the plan? Especially since the one who posted being very sure to say multiple times that he wasn’t a fan 🙄 The whole kissing story is absolutely ridiculous and, again, I don’t get the purpose. We know it’s bullshit, so is it these people just lying for 4 seconds of attention? Or is it part of some plan on Louis’ part? For what? I don’t see what good any of this does for him. don't know if it counts as a trope, but i hate second act break-ups! sometimes they are justified, but more often than not it's just the writers following a formula that does not work nearly as well as they seem to think for most stories.

💭 something that you find annoying in BLs

the way that casual intimacy is portrayed in a pretty significant amount of series. the amount of times when the main couple gets into a relationship, but they don't really have any moments of normal casual intimacy drives me up the wall. not only do many series just... not know how to deal with their characters in an established relationship (e.g. have them hold hands, always gravitate towards each other, stand closer to one another than other people, etc.), so often we have one character that is just so incredibly opposed to any signs of intimacy. and i'm not saying that it's entirely unrealistic, but the overexaggeration of the thing itself (with downright uncomfortable scenes of the character chanting "no", while the other keeps kissing him) and the oversaturation of it in bls since sotus-fucking-s (and i do apologise for even mentioning it, but ffs) definitely makes me annoyed as fuck.
